Marco Abruzzi of Abruzzi Racing Transmissions teamed up with the RENEGADE RACING ASSOCIATION
to bring you the 2012 ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN where the top 4 points participants in each index class faced off
In a TWO ROUND, WINNER TAKES ALL shoot-out!!!!
There was so much excitement and anticipation of this event all season that many racers forgot that the series actually rewards the Top 5 in Points. All the focus and all the hype was around those Top 4 spots. After all what is 5th place…but the 1st guy who did not make it into the SMACKDOWN.

MIKE BROWN CUSTOMS 10.50 INDEX
Rolling through the gates on the morning of the RRA’s Season Finale the Top 4 guys in 10.50 were Mike Carroll in his 1968 Chevy Camaro, Gary Paine in his 1968 Buick GS, Jimmy Pelcarsky in his 03 Chevy S10, and Ed Domniak in his 1969 Chevy Z28. The only racer who’s spot in the SMACKDOWN was 100% guaranteed was Mike Carroll. Now the stars would have had to align perfectly for multiple racers for there to be a remote chance for Gary Paine to lose his position but we all know anything is possible on race day.
QUALIFYING:
With the Top 2 spots pretty much a done deal that left us to determine who would be holding the bottom 2 spots and there were 8 very skilled racers with a possible shot. This class is made up of the kind of men who never say die, as race in and race out they must fight just to make the cut. The first 2 rounds of eliminations were full of shocking upsets, leaving 2 racers left in competition that could potentially play spoiler and sneak into the SMACKDOWN, Tim Chumley and his 1986 Mustang and Jeff Getsy and his 1977 Chevy Vega. While Tim fell short, Jeff went all the way to claim his 1st RRA victory, which forced a 3-way run off between himself, Ed Domniak, and Jimmy Pelcarsky. Tensions were high with so much on the line. They each took a pass and the two closest to the index would be in the SMACKDOWN. These 3 men are very competitive and great racers but when Jimmy Pelcarsky broke out on his pass the 2 remaining spots went to Ed and Jeff.
ELIMINATIONS:
Gary Paine went up against Ed Domniak in the first round, and unfortunately for Gary he went red sending Ed to the finals. Mike Carroll faced Jeff Getsy but Jeff’s winning streak was cut down just one round short of the finals. Mike Carroll has been wicked on the tree all season and the SMACKDOWN was no different, even though Ed ran a 6.72 to Mike’s 6.75 in the finals it was not enough and Mike Carroll was your 2012 10.50 SMACKDOWN Winner.
CONGRATS TO MIKE CARROLL – 2012 10.50 SMACKDOWN CHAMPION
