JIM MIKESINA SECURITY 8.90 INDEX RECAP
We had 10 racers in the 8.90 class who all come outta the gates in 2013 with guns blazing!!! Jimmy Getsy, the defending 2012 Champion, proved he isn’t going to let that title go without a fight. In the 1st round of qualifying he ran an 8.904 pass, cutting a .009 light. However, surprisingly that wasn’t good enough to claim the ULTRATECH Memorial #1 Qualifying spot which went to Brian Prior who ran an 8.901 in his 1st pass down a track for the year in his 1984 Camaro.
In round #2 of eliminations when Brian went a bit too fast (8.892), and Scott Williams claimed the V’s HOUSE OF HORSEPOWER Bounty put on the #1 Qualifier. Semi-Finals came down to Scott in his 1965 Chevelle taking on Troy Wotring, in his 1965 GTO’s 1st outing with the RRA,. While Jimmy Getsy in his 1964 Corvette went up against Bill Benson, who has stepped up to 8.90 this year, he ran 9.90 in his 1972 Chevy Nova last season.
The finals came down to Scott Williams vs Jim Getsy. Scott ran a 8.96 to Jimmy’s 8.98 but Getsy continues to prove he is wicked off the line cutting a .017 light to Scott’s .111 securing him the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus as well as the first victory of the 2013 Season. In addition to the RRA purse the winner also walks away with the KLABEN Cash bonus.
Top 8.90 Payouts (between car count and bonus awards)
Jim Getsy $750
Scott Williams $340
Brian Prior $100

JIM MIKESINA SECURITY 8.90 INDEX
Of the 9 racers entered, the top 4 logged qualifying times in the 5.70’s or faster. After coming up thousandths of a second short in Race #1, this time Jimmy Getsy was your ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifier running a 5.75 in round #1 of qualifying.
Unfortunately, three of the most competitive racers in this class Al Matuska, Scott Williams, and Jimmy Getsy were a little too quick on the tree during eliminations, and when Jimmy Getsy red lit in round #2 he also gave up the V’s HOUSE OF HORSEPOWER Bounty to Troy Wotring. Semi-Finals came down to Bill Benson in his 72 Nova vs Brian Prior in his 84 Camaro. In his 1st two races in the 8.90 class Bill Benson has made it to the Semi’s both times proving he is going to be a force to be reckoned with this season, but Brian’s .02 reaction time was enough to get him the round win as well as the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus. Troy Wotring in his 1965 GTO vs Al Matuska in his 1965 Chevelle, and I already let the cat outta the bag on how that round went, sending Troy on to the finals to take on Brian Prior. Troy had Brian on the tree but was just a bit to quick on his pass running a 5.68 to Brian Priors 5.70. With his win Brian also claims the KLABEN CASH Bonus.
Top Payouts with Purse/Bonuses combined
Brian Prior - $550
Troy Wotring - $250
Jimmy Getsy - $100

JIM MIKESINA 8.90 INDEX RECAP
For the 2nd race in a row, was awesome to see the class that started it all for the RRA back in 2010 put up great car counts with 15 racers entered into competition!!! Jim Getsy came out in round #1 of qualifying with the Vette set on kill!! Putting up a 8.908 with a .01 reaction time to claim the ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifier for the second time this season. Getsy also took home the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus cutting a .003 light in round #1 of eliminations. Unfortunately that is where the streak for the day came to an end next round he went .002 red against Gary Moore allowing Gary to take home V's HOUSE of HORSEPOWER Bounty on the #1 Qualifier.
Semi-Finals came down to Ed Domniak in his 69 Camaro vs Brian Prior in his 84 Camaro. Domniak finished 4th overall last season in the 10.50 class but chose to step it up this season, making it to the semi's in his 2nd outing of 2013 in the 8.90 class. Al Matuska had to bow out of the semi-finals due to mechanical issues sending Gary into the finals. Prior just didn't have enough left at the end of the night and Gary Moore claimed the victory running a 8.96 to Brian's 9.11 and with 4 out of the top 5 in points going out within the 1st two rounds of competition Gary not only took home the largest purse of the season including the KLABEN Cash Winner's Bonus but moved up 5 spots in the points race going from 8th all the way to 3rd in just one event!!!

JIM MIKESINA SECURITY SERVICE 8.90 INDEX RECAP
First race of our 2013 season the defending Champion, Jimmy Getsy came away with the win and of course with along with that the points lead, looking like he intended to make it back to back seasons as the 8.90 Champ, but anyone who has followed this class for the past 4 years knows is packed full of some of the most skilled racers in the RRA so this would be no easy task, and by race #2 Brian Prior, who let it be known at the end of 2012 that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2013, had things all tied up, a just two races later had bypassed Jimmy and officially took the lead from the Champ.
13 racers were fighting to claim the ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifying spot and the bonus point to go with it, Jimmy
Getsy was the one to walk away with it for the 3rd time this season, but not by much, just .006 separated his 8.932 and Martin Harrison’s 8.938. With only one chance to get it done right unfortunately 3 racers just went to fast, to be put in at the bottom of the ladder.
Jimmy Getsy also locked up the SKW MOTORSPORTS Best Reaction Time Bonus early in the race with his .022 in rd #1. Also in the 1st round of eliminations, Al Matuska made a little history of his own within the RRA, something that has never been done before. He put up a PERFECT 8.900!!! Making this fete even sweeter and a little extra special is the fact that Al Matuska is the last remaining member of the “Founding Four” (the men responsible for bringing the RRA to life) who is still with the series and the only racer to have competed in every race held in the past 4 years.
In Rd #2 Al Matuska also took down the points leader Brian Prior, definitely opening up potential for a shake-up in the overall points, and the race to make it into the ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN.
Semi-Finals came down to Al Matuska in his 1965 Malibu going up against Jimmy Getsy in his 1964 Corvette. Getsy is known for being lethal off the line and in this round he once again lived up to his reputation, taking the round win with an 8.920 to Al’s 8.910. On the other side of the ladder Ed Domniak got to bypass the semi’s completely and head right into the finals with his 1969 Camaro, when unfortunately both racers in the prior round left before the tree cycled resulting in a double disqualification.
When it was all said and done, and the dust had settled Jimmy Getsy was not only your 8.90 class winner for Race #7, but he is now back on top of the points program, looks like Getsy decided to remind everyone if you want his title you better be prepared to put up one hell of a fight, he isn’t going to let it go easily!!
Jimmy Getsy also took home the KLABEN FORD CASH Bonus, and the V’s HOUSE of HORSEPOWER Bounty for being your #1 qualifier and going all the way to winner’s circle. Ed Domniak has $50 coming from MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES for his runner-up finish on their tire.
With just 2 races left we are coming down to the wire and we all know anything can happen. Going to get intense!!!

JIM MIKESINA SECURITY 8.90 INDEX
Race #8 started to feel a lot like race #7 when the day 1st began. With 12 racers once again vying for that coveted #1 Qualifying spot and the all too important point that goes with it. Jimmy Getsy came out strong following his win just a week ago, becoming your ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifier at back to back events and for the 4th time overall this season. Jimmy once again took home the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus for his .01 light in Rd #2 of eliminations but that is where the similarities end...
The Points Championship is intense and is going to go down the wire but with the ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN right around the corner every round matters for so many racers, even if that Top Spot is out of reach they are fighting to break into the Top 4 and make what is the equivalent to the all-stars for the RRA's index classes.
Early in eliminations Scott Williams had to get past the 2 new racers to the RRA's 8.90 class, and he did so right off the starting line. Round #1 he faced Bill Suitor in '70 Chevelle, I playfully referred to him as Brian Prior's "blocker" since he came out from NY with them to join the RRA but he proved he has potential to play spoiler if he returns on the 28th putting up 8.96 to Scott's 8.99. Rd #2 Scott faced the Buick that followed us back home after racing last week at SMP. Hope to see more of the mystery racer (never signed in at the booth) who qualified #4 and put up an 8.9041 in his loss to Scott...he is going to be a tough player in this class for sure.
I heard a rumor that Chico (#8 in points) was going to sit out the 14th, but he obviously changed his mind. He decided to come out and have a fun day of target practice with the top 4 in points. Rd #1 he took down Troy Wotring (tied for 3rd) covering him on both ends of the track with a nice 8.905 while he was at it. Rd #2 Jimmy Getsy (#1 in points) surprisingly played right into his hands, when he let Chico run him right out the back door, in a double break-out loss Getsy ran an 8.33 to Chico's 8.84 also giving him the V's HOUSE OF HORSEPOWER Bounty on the #1 qualifier. In the semi-finals Chico faced Scott Williams (tied for 3rd), where he once again ran right on the number with an 8.904 pass to take Scott out of competition for the night.
On the other side of the ladder, Al Matuska (#4 in points) faced Brian Prior (#2 in points) in Rd #2. Al came out with the round win in a tight, exciting race with his 8.91 to Brian's 8.92. In the semi-finals, Al slipped right past Barry Boone who had issues at the line, ultimately leaving before the tree cycled.
The finals would prove no different for Chico in is his successful day of strategically taking down everyone who stands between him and a shot at making the ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN, with Chico's win over Al in the finals he moved up 3 spots to the #5, just 1 point stands between him and the SMACKDOWN going into the last race of the season. Just keeps getting more and more interesting!!!!

JIM MIKESINA SECURITY 8.90 INDEX
Eleven racers came out looking to enjoy one more go round in the class that started it all just 4 yrs ago, the heart and soul of the RENEGADE RACING ASSOCIATION, the 8.90 Index Class. Of the 9 guys still battling it out in the Championship Race, 5 still had a shot of making the ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN but only 1 racer stood a chance of stopping Jimmy Getsy from claiming back to back titles. Going into this event Getsy (1st) and Prior (2nd) had already locked up their ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN spots, but Matuska (3rd) and Williams (4th) had to hold off Chico (5th), Wotring (6th), and Benson (7th) to hang on to the remaining 2 spots.
Chico came out strong going 8.9083 in round #1 of qualifying, surprisingly that was not good enough to get it done. In round #2 Jimmy Getsy quickly put up an 8.9063, but in the very next pair of cars Al Matuska runs his 2nd PERFECT PASS of the season 8.900 to finally be the one to claim the ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifier Bonus, and the extra point that goes along with it.
Bill Benson had Scott Williams covered at both ends, when the 2 met up in 1st round of eliminations, and unfortunately for Scott this is where his hopes of staying within the Top 4 and going on to the SMACKDOWN came to an end. Scott finished up 5th place in this years points program. In the very next round Chico pushed Benson out the back door in a double breakout win to quickly squash Benson's chance at a last second rally to crack the Top 4. Bill came in 7th place overall in the points program.
Troy Wotring suffered some mechanical difficulties 2nd round and could not push the car to run the number. When he lost the round he also lost his shot at breaking into the Top 4 and the SMACKOWN. Troy finished 6th overall, but proved to be quite the competitor in his 1st season with the RRA.
Clay Courson went all the way to the Semi-finals in his 1st time running eliminations with the 8.90 class (he was entered in a previous rain-out or two) but when he took his 69 Camaro too fast, he gave the round to Al Matuska, who went on to face Chico in the finals. It was like deja-vu from just 2 weeks ago when Chico came up with the win and the KLABEN CASH Winner's Bonus, although this time he also got to claim the V's HOUSE of HORSEPOWER Bounty on the #1 Qualifier. Al did not go down without one hell of a fight, in one of the tightest races this class has seen all year. Chico got the advantage off the starting line when his light was a .0412 to Al's .0470 which was enough to cover the top end when he put up an 8.9783 to Al's 8.9776. Al was able to move up and finish the year Runner-Up in points. Chico moved into 3rd place overall, crazy to think just 2 races ago he was sitting in 8th place.
When Brian Prior moved past Vic Santo in round #1 of eliminations, it insured that the very next round could be considered by some to be the most important round within the points program all year. An epic battle between the top 2 in points was now set to take place!! Getsy and Prior had gone back and forth all year in a very tight race for the coveted top spot, and even though Jimmy pulled ahead after race #7 it was far from a done deal. This match-up had definitely been in the making all season long, as these two had never gone head to head in eliminations, not until the Season Finale that is, where the future of the championship was on the line. If Prior won he stood a solid chance of dethroning the Champ, but if Getsy could hold him off...he was guaranteed to become the 1st racer ever to win back to back titles in the RRA!!! Even though it was an exciting, edge of your seat round of racing, it was pretty much over from the word go when Jimmy literally killed the tree!! His reaction time...A PERFECT .000!!! He got the round win and obviously this got him the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus.
Congratulations to Jimmy Getsy for successfully defending his title to become your 2013 8.90 Class Champion, as well as the 1st racer in the RRA to win back to back titles, not only this but he officially logged the best season of any racer across all 4 classes.
Within 2013 he claimed the SKW MOTORSPORTS Reaction Time Bonus - 5 times / ULTRATECH MEMORIAL #1 Qualifier - 4 times / Event Winner - 2 times / V's HOUSE of HORSEPOWER Bounty Winner - 1 time...very impressive year for the Champ!!!
Congratulations and Thank You to all the racers of the 8.90 Index Class for a successful season, looking forward to what seeing what 2014 will bring!!

This was Brian Prior's 1st trip to the SMACKDOWN, the others are returning from 2012. Jimmy Getsy is the defending SMACKDOWN Champ!

Al Matuska fought hard and overcame mechanical adversity that plagued the start of his 2013 season to finish 2nd overall, making his way into the SMACKDOWN. Chico could have given up on dreams of making the SMACKDOWN when at race #7 of the season he was sitting in 8th place overall, but the never say die mentality is strong within the RRA and Chico pulled off one hell of an end of the season rally finishing 3rd overall. These 2 had gone head to head in the finals of the past 2 events and the SMACKDOWN would pair them 1st round. The 3rd outing would prove no different, Al had him off the line with an .02 light to Chico's .04 but he just couldn't quite run the # and Chico advanced to the Finals.

Brian Prior had been breathing down Jimmy Getsy's neck all season long, and the SMACKDOWN was no different. These two went at it for the 2nd day in a row...Getsy was victorious in their match-up the day before securing the championship for himself and when the day came to a close Prior sat in 4th place overall. These two are great racers and fierce competitors, it was a hell of a fight but in the end Jimmy was able to push Brian out the back door in a 8.84 / 8.81 double-breakout round win to advance to the finals.

The ABRUZZI SMACKDOWN 8.90 FINALS!!! Could your defending SMACKDOWN Championship make it back to back here as well?? The answer is No...the Vette had all she was going to take in 2013 and went down mid-pass to cracked transmission case. Jimmy ran a 9.84 and Chico took the win with a 9.08 pass. Chico ended his epic come from behind season by becoming your newest SMACKDOWN CHAMPION!!!
