2015 GERRY KORMAN MEMORIAL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
If you are a Rookie to the RRA chances are you never had the pleasure of meeting Gerry Korman. At 69 years old he had quite the racing resume that most of us never realized until stories were shared after he was gone. He never bragged about where he had been or what he had done, he just rode around the pits on a cool motor powered bicycle he built himself (it was pretty cool) and was having the time of his life! He won one of our 2nd chance races and his friend joked that you would have thought he won a National Event...he didn't care, he was having fun!! 2012...69 years old in his 1st season!!! He raced 10.50 that year but was spending his off season with his sites set on 9.90!! Sadly a slip on the ice one morning and he was gone by the next. His passion and excitement to go racing and to just truly enjoy life as well as how quickly he was gone is a reminder that we should live every day like it is our last!! No one is promised tomorrow...It was an honor to name this award in his memory, and I hope whoever receives it is just as honored.
