RACE #1 RECAP - APRIL 27 2013
For the Official Start to the RENEGADE RACING ASSOCIATION 2013 Season, Mother Nature finally decided to cut us some slack. Beautiful blue skies, great temps, just couldn’t have asked for a better day to go racing!!! Yes, car count was a little light, but this is the 1st time in our 4 year history we have run in April. Lots of RRA regulars were out with us lining the fence wishing they were weren’t on the sidelines while their cars were still in the garage, hopefully by May 11th the majority of them will be back in action.

CHUMLEY MOTORSPORTS 10.50 INDEX
This is the 1st season the 10.50 Class has officially been expanded to a 32 car field. I have no doubt qualifying will count come May 11th!!! Even though we were missing quite a few familiar faces, it was awesome to see that the class was full of new ones for our first outing of 2013. With 11 of the 26 racers competing putting up times of 10.59 or faster during qualifying. Your HAGERTY-MOBILE #1 Qualifier was Bob Singer running a 10.51 in his 1965 Chevy Nova during round #2. Tim
Chumley, who plays dual roles within the 10.50 class, as a racer as well as the classes title sponsor, Tim was TI DYNO’s Sweet 16 Bonus winner for qualifying in
the 16th spot.
Tim Chumley took out the #1 qualifier in round #1 of eliminations to take home the Penn Racing Bounty, but Bob Brown stopped him from claiming the additional bonus from Penn Racing by defeating Tim in the next round. The Semi-finals then came down to Bob Brown in his 1989 Mustang going up
against last year’s Champion Mike Carroll in his 1968 Camaro. John Sahli in his 1969 Camaro went up against Mike Walker in his 1972 Chevelle.
Finals once again had the “Mike’s of the 10.50 class” battling it out as Carroll took on Walker. In the end Carroll claimed the victory with a 10.53 to Walkers 10.54.
During the finals Carroll claimed the MIKE BROWN CUSTOMS Reaction Time Bonus with a .004 light. Walker will be collecting $50 at the end of the season for MICKEY THOMPSON for runner-up finish on M/T.
Top 10.50 Payouts (between car count and bonus awards)
Mike Carroll $650
Mike Walker $290
Tim Chumley/Bob Singer - $100 each
MICKEY THOMPSON OUTLAW L/S
No one can deny the April outing was rough on the Outlaw class, but everyone also knows within the next 2 races when guys have time to get their cars done and the bugs worked out this class is going to be off the hook!!!! We had 3 guys racing in our 1st event. Dave Hinzman, in that bad-ass Mustang everyone knows so well, April 27th was the 1st time out in 2013 for the Mustang, they will be working a few things out with the car before the 11th. It was awesome to welcome Keith Sletvold back to running with the RRA after missing most of the 2012 season. Hope Keith continues to come out and put on a great show with that beautiful 1968 Camaro of his.
Race #1 of the 2013 could be renamed the George Rumore show. George was M & M Chassis Craft’s #1 qualifier with a 5.10. He defeated Dave Hinzman in the finals with nice wheels up pass of 5.17 with a .03 light. With the victory George claimed the PERFORMANCE APPLIANCE BOUNTY, the SKIPPY DID IT REACTION TIME Bonus for that .03 in the finals, as well as the QUARTER MILE FINISH Winner’s Bonus.
When it was all said and done George walked away with almost $1000 for 2 rounds of racing…Not a bad way to start his season off!!!
2 OUTLAW boys who are definitely bored and antsy to get back to the track also set up the RRA’s 1st ever grudge race when Wes Blankenship challenged Mike Barren to race their tow vehicles. Mike met Wes’ challenge and also came up victorious in the end. Can’t wait to get these guys outta their trucks and into their cars!! But everyone had a great time with it!!!!!
