RACE RECAP

JIM MIKESINA SECURITY SERVICES 8.90 INDEX

There were 9 racers entered in yesterday’s program. Yes, our car count may have been Off but for the 9 racers entered it was
Game On!!! They held nothing back when it came to qualifying!! CHUMLEY MOTORSPORTS #1 Qualifier was none other than CHICO himself, in his 1963 Chevy II with an 8.91, the next 6 qualifiers came in with an 8.96 or better. Eliminations were fierce with the #1 and #2 in the race for the Points Championship being taken out in round #2 leaving CHICO, Gary Moore, Scott Williams, and Ken Cooper to go into the Semi-Finals. The finals came down to CHICO vs Ken Cooper in his 1981 Ford Mustang. Ken’s .0046 light in the finals secured him the SKW MOTORSPORTS Best Reaction Time Bonus and though CHICO ran that wild pass of his all the way through the finish line it wasn’t enough to overtake Ken who claimed the victory as well as V’s HOUSE OF HORSEPOWERS Bounty on the #1 Qualifier.

Congratulations to Ken Cooper and his crew Travis Faulhaber and Bob Ortman!!!

MIKE BROWN CUSTOMS 10.50 INDEX

We had 27 racers,  many of which were new racers to the RRA, vying for 16 spots with everyone  putting everything they had on the table combined with the great air and track  conditions and it became a battle of the breakouts. #1 qualifier was decided by  one thousandth of a second with the TI DYNO #1 Qualifier being Gary Paine in his  1968 Buick GS with a 10.502. Many of the top contenders in the race for the  Points Championship either did not make it into the program or were taken out in  the early rounds of eliminations; it will be interesting to see how this race  will affect the overall standings. Semi-Finals came down to Gary Paine, Mike  Carroll, Phil Nordquist, and Ed Domniak. In the finals Gary Paine took on “The  Dom” in his 1969 Chevy Z-28. Gary went on to claim the victory as well as taking  home the CREATIVE MOLD AND MACHINE Bounty.

Congratulations to Gary and  Sandy  Paine!!!!

10.50 Bonus Race Winner was Steve Prusnek driving  Bill Daiuto’s 1986 Olds Cutlass – Congrats Guys!!

TOMMY COWLE’S  OUTLAW  LIMITED STREET (Sponsored by SkippyDidItRacecars)

It’s awesome to continue to have strong fields of these wild machines this late into the season.  Don Turner (Mr. Z) claimed the Tom Cowle Memorial #1 qualifier money with a  5.05. Eliminations were intense as they always are in this caliber of racing.  Welcome Bill Trovato and Shawn Earp in their first outing with the RRA in 2012,  both racers made it to the semi-finals. The finals came down to a rematch  between Mr. Z in his 1982 Nitrous-fed Big Block Camaro and Dave Hinzman in his  1987 Pro-Charged BBC Mustang. When these two power houses met on July 21st Mr Z  handed Hinzman the victory on the starting line. This time it was Hinzman’s turn  to hand the victory over to Mr. Z in an edge of your seat, heart stopping pass  where he took out two sets of cones while coming into Mr. Z’s lane before regaining control of the car. Great job during this intense final round!! Don  Turner also walked away with the QUARTER MILE FINISH Bounty on the #1  Qualifier.

Congratulations to Mr. Z and Sandy!!!!

THANKS TO ALL  THE RACERS THAT MAKE THIS SERIES WHAT IT IS!!!
Yes the staff is vital and  without all of our great volunteers we would not be here but YOU GUYS GET BEHIND  THE WHEEL AND BRING THE RRA TO LIFE!!!

Of Course as always a big Thank You goes out to Jim Curtis and his staff for giving us a place to call home!!!
