To give you a little back ground leading up to this event...
2013 was not only rough weather wise but for many of the racers of our Outlaw Class it was just as rough mechanically. Two guys in particular had their backs against the wall to make the Rossler Race.
George Rumore and Dave Hinzman had been battling for the top spot in points all season long. One point separated them going into the Sept 7th at SMP and the ladder set them up to go head to head in eliminations and the never say die mentality within our racers is strong, even though George's car was hurt he went for it anyway!! Damaged pistons, torched head, and hurt valves...all custom built with typical turn around of 8 weeks. With this much damage done it was assumed his season had just come to an end. When George was unable to compete in our Sept 14th outing and Dave Hinzman got the win, it was a done deal, and he also locked up the Championship!! Dave Hinzman became the 1st racer to claim the MICKEY THOMPSON Outlaw Limited Street STAINLESS WORKS CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
As with so many racers within the RRA, Ed McGuinn has a great crew behind him, his 2013 season was almost over before it began when his Trans Am was being less than cooperative off the trailer in the spring, but Al DiSalvo handed him the keys to his Chevelle and they ran it most of the season. They impressively pushed the car to its limits, keeping us on the edge of our seats while staying competitive throughout the year. Then finally his 1980 Trans Am was ready and back in action. They got it back to the track only to hurt the motor at our Sept 14th event...trashing every piston, as well as suffering fuel pump issues. With 2 weeks to the big event how could they possibly get it done in time!!
Everyone involved in this sport knows we don't do this for the money, we do it for the love of drag racing because its part of who we are!! Our Outlaw Class is young...2013 is only our 3rd season, even though I can't deny we have struggled for car count over the years we still have great supporters behind this class that believe in us...MICKEY THOMPSON TIRES, ROSSLER TRANSMISSIONS, STAINLESS WORKS and a handful of other great companies standing with the RRA and its Outlaw Class. The racers that make us the core of this class are top notch, they have heart, determination and their dedication is second to none, proving this class has potential to be something great. The weeks leading up to the Rossler Race were definitely a great example of this dedication. Both racers mentioned above moved heaven and earth to get it done and somehow against all odds they both made it back out to join in on the battle for $2000 at the inaugural Rossler Outlaw Limited Street Nationals.
Let the ROSSLER NATIONALS begin...
During qualifying Keith Sletvold, who has been with the RRA's Outlaw Class race in and race out since the 1st season, seemed to have his '68 Camaro set up to be your M & M CHASSIS CRAFT #1 Qualifier when he put up a 5.14 in the 1st round of qualifying. That number held through 2 rounds until George Rumore, the last car to make a pass in round #2 came to the line with his '79 Camaro. George took the position and the $100 bonus put up by M & M Chassis Craft from him by a mere 4 hundredths of a second.
They pulled off the miracle and the repairs were complete but it left no time for testing and the passes on September 28th showed they were still plagued with some sort of mechanical gremlins, which meant unfortunately for Ed McGuinn and his crew their 2013 season came to an end during round #1 of eliminations when they could only put up a 6.51 pass against Scotty G. We are looking forward to having our NY boys back in 2014 stirring up trouble with the RRA and showing us what that Trans Am is really capable of!!! Ed joined the Championship race late in the season but still finished off the year 5th in points.
Scotty G has been on and off the RRA scene over the past few years and worked on the car all season long. It was great to have him back in the lanes with us. The Rossler race was his one and only event with us in 2013. He faced George Rumore in round #2 and came up short running a 5.14 to George's 5.11. Scotty is one of the best guys this sport has to offer us with a beautiful 69 Camaro...hope to see him back out with the RRA for years to come!!
Keith Sletvold went up against Dave Hinzman is round #2 of eliminations. The Camaro slowed up from qualifying and the round win went to Hinzman. Keith finished the year 3rd in points. Keith is the epitome of the Never Say Die mentality...I am very optimistic we are going to see great things from him in 2014!!!
No one thought George would make it back, let alone be sitting in the finals of the ROSSLER OUTLAW LIMITED STREET NATIONALS!!! Yet here he was once again facing Dave Hinzman, deja-vu from a few weeks back?? Not exactly!! This time we are racing at home and there was $2000 plus bragging rights of a whole different title on the line!!! Dave put up a 5.02, fastest pass of the night but just wasn't enough to overcome his delay off the line. His .19 light was uncharacteristic for your 2013 Outlaw Champion not only that but George comes out with a .01 light to be the SKIPPY DID IT RACECARS Reaction Time Bonus Winner for the night. He ran a 5.09 to take down the Champ, claim the victory, the PERFORMANCE APPLIANCE BOUNTY, the QUARTER MILE FINISH Winner's Bonus, on top of all of this...
GEORGE RUMORE OFFICIALLY BECAME THE 1st WINNER OF THE ROSSLER OUTLAW LIMITED STREET NATIONALS!!!!
